Greene County district court, week ending July 12

In Greene County district court Austin James Hill, 36, of West Des Moines was sentenced July 12 to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit fraudulent practice- third degree, amended from conspiracy to commit non-forcible felony. The prison term is consecutive to sentences in Adams and Marshall County cases. Hill was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. Marcus Lee Greene, 29, of Greensboro, NC, was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail sentence was dismissed and he was placed on probation to Boone/Breene County Probation for one year. He must complete a drinking drivers course. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must also undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Greene was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $255.60. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Wayne Eugene Royer, 43, of Scranton, sex offender area/activity violation; Tirone Isaac Bingley, 22, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; and Jon Michael Kurth, 40, of Ankeny, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. A trial date was set for July 23 for Royer, for Nov. 5 for Bingley, and for Aug. 7 for Kurth.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Logan Wayne Grazier, 28, of Scranton, arson- second degree, criminal mischief- first degree, conspiracy to commit non-forcible felony, and insurance fraud- presenting false information; Connor Laine Groves, 27, of Scranton, arson- second degree, conspiracy to commit non-forcible felony, fraudulent practices greater than $10,000, insurance fraud- presenting false information, criminal mischief- first degree and possession of marijuana; Jordan Marcus Ward, 30, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated; Mark Edward Dugan II, 45, of Des Moines, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense, eluding- second or subsequent offense, and operating while intoxicated- second offense; Danae Sellers, 35, of Rippey, child endangerment- three counts; Amy Lee Fell, 40, of Van Meter, possession of methamphetamine; and Tonya Lynne Zollars, 36, of Paton, operating while intoxicated- second offense.
